On July 9, 2019, a heinous crime shook the community in Tinderet when a 32-year-old mother allegedly killed her two daughters, Ivy Chelang'at, 11, and Berly Chepchumba, 7, and dumped their bodies in a pit latrine.
The girls were in Class Five and Class One respectively at Kabolebo Primary School when they were brutally murdered by their mother, Floxy Cheptoo, inside a bedroom they shared with their cousins.
According to police, Cheptoo's male friend allegedly lied to her that she should kill her kids so that she could be married to the man who comes from the same village.
However, detectives in Nandi Hills laid a trap for Cheptoo through a friend who promised her a well-paying job, and when she arrived at her friend's home, officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations were waiting for her.
She is currently detained at Kapsabet Police Station.
