Kenya's Beatrice Chepkoech made history on Monday night, October 1, 2019, by winning the country's second gold medal in the IAAF Athletics World Championship in Doha, Qatar.
With a time of 8:57.84 seconds, Chepkoech broke the hearts of her competitors, including United States' Emmah Coburn, who finished second with a time of 9:02.35 seconds, and Germany's Gesa Felicitas, who clinched the bronze medal with a time of 9:03.30 seconds.
Hyvin Kiyeng, the 2015 World champion, finished eighth in the race, clocking 9:13.53 seconds.
Meanwhile, Eunice Sum finished fifth in the 800m race, timing 1:59.71 seconds, while Ugandan Halima Nakaayi won the race with a time of 1:58.04 seconds.
The men's 5000m race was won by Ethiopian Muktar Edris in 12:58.85 seconds, with Kenyans Jacob Krop and Nicholas Kimeli finishing sixth and eighth, respectively.
Kenya currently sits at the fourth position on medal standings with two gold medals and one bronze medal.
