On October 1, 2019, Alberto Salazar, a 61-year-old renowned running coach, was barred from the World Athletics Championships in Doha after being handed a four-year doping ban.
The United States Track and Field Federation (USATF) took swift action, stripping Salazar of his accreditation for the championships.
“USATF has taken the steps necessary to have Mr. Salazar's IAAF World Championships accreditation deactivated,” the USATF said in a statement.
Despite Salazar's suspension, athletes linked to him, including those from his Nike Oregon Project stable, will not be affected by the coach's suspension.
Salazar's suspension comes as a surprise, given that he coached Britain's four-time Olympic champion Mo Farah and the Netherlands' Ethiopian-born Sifan Hassan, who won the women's 10,000 meters gold on Saturday.
