Kenyan Politician Babu Owino Mocks McDonald Mariga's Public Speaking Skills

Published on October 1, 2019

McDonald Mariga, the Jubilee candidate in the Kibra by-elections, has come under fire for his poor public speaking skills. Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has taken to Twitter to troll Mariga, saying he should stop 'blabbing' and start using the right words in his speech.

Mariga is facing criticism from a section of citizens who argue that his incoherent speech at public rallies raises questions about his ability to perform his duties if elected as a member of the National Assembly.

Many citizens have argued that Mariga, a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto, will be left with nothing to say if he is asked to remove the phrase 'sindiyo' (right) from his speech.

One Deejay Jomba questioned Mariga on Twitter, saying, 'Which work will Mariga do if addressing people in English is a big problem?' Another tweep, Juma Omondi, claimed that Mariga cannot even express himself well in Swahili, mostly using the phrase 'tutashinda' (we will win) while addressing residents.

However, a section of citizens clapped back at Babu Owino, saying ODM was obsessed with Mariga because he was giving the opposition party sleepless nights.

Kevin Kituyi said the former University of Nairobi student leader had stooped too low by attacking Mariga's speech, asking him to instead concentrate on work in his constituency.

Mwisukue wa Mulei said, 'Focus on retaining the seat and stop underestimating your opponent. I wish the campaign of Imran can focus on Issues and stop unnecessary attacks.'
