Published on October 1, 2019, the IDPA Africa Championship 2019 saw Kenya's shooting team emerge victorious in various categories.

Over 200 competitors from different parts of Africa, Switzerland, Poland, Pakistan, and the USA participated in the event, which was held at the False Bay Sports Shooting Club in Cape Town, South Africa.

The Kenyan team, braving the cold, rainy, and windy weather, bagged a total of 3 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals.

Robert Nyamongo won gold in ESP Master with a score of 328.67, while Sammy Onyango, competing in Master SSP, won gold with a score of 330.37. Mohamed Omar bagged silver with a score of 334.17.

Eric Wachira won bronze in Expert ESP division with a score of 396.79, while Soi Kilonzo won bronze in ESP Sharpshooter with a score of 426.39.

Peter Njoroge came in second with a score of 450.74 to scoop a silver in the Sharpshooter CCP division.

Geoffrey Pesa won gold in Pistol Calibre Carbine (PCC) Marksman division with a score of 334.76.

In Law Enforcement, S/Sgt Daniel Mutiso won gold with a score of 410.74.

19-year-old Mahir Omar's striking performance saw him scoop position 4 in CCP Expert.

Several shooters complained of the bad weather, which affected the visibility of the targets.

"We just stood there. You couldn’t even see where your round had hit but we survived," said participant Dafton Mwitiki.

NGAO-Kenya Vice Chairman Sammy Onyango reiterated Kenya’s plans to host the IDPA championships 2020.
