On Monday, a dramatic scene unfolded at the Makadara Law Court, where a middle-aged man charged with stealing Sh35,000 worth of firewood made a shocking claim against his accuser.

Joseph Gitau Kimani, the accused, denied stealing from John Thotho Muthecha on June 17, 2019, in Huruma, instead accusing Muthecha of abandoning his responsibilities as a father.

Kimani's allegations sparked a bitter exchange in the courtroom, with Muthecha insisting that he only knows Kimani as a thief.

Kimani shot back, 'You are my father and everyone knows that. There are very many people who know you are my father and can testify here.'

However, Muthecha denied any paternal relationship with Kimani, stating that he has eight children and Kimani is none of them.

The two became unruly in court, prompting court orderlies to intervene and calm them down.

Kimani was released on a Sh15,000 cash bail, with his lorry remaining at Huruma Police Station as part of the bail conditions.
