On October 1, 2019, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) took a significant step in ensuring road safety in Nairobi by withdrawing the licenses of 9 leading SACCOs.

The move comes after these SACCOs failed to meet the requirements of operating a fleet of at least 30 vehicles, as stipulated in Section 5(1) of the National Transport and Safety Authority (Operation of PSV) Regulations, 2014.

According to NTSA, the suspended SACCOs include City Tram (Nairobi CBD-Umoja route), Mwamba Sacco (Komarock route), Marvellous Travellers (Komarock route), MNGN Sacco (Mathare North-Ngara-Gikomba), Fig Komba Sacco, Moonlight Coach company, Mwirona Sacco, Huruma Mini Bus, and Transafaris (Nairobi-Nakuru-Kisumu-Busia route).

NTSA has advised the public not to board any vehicles belonging to these SACCOs in order to avoid any inconveniences. The Traffic Department has been instructed to impound any vehicles found operating contrary to the suspension.
