Published on September 30, 2019, a shocking case of top-level blackmail has left the Kenyan government on high alert. Governor Mike Sonko is threatening to publicly release private videos and screenshots of President Uhuru Kenyatta in an attempt to force the head of state to call off the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission investigations and impending prosecution against him over serious graft charges.
According to sources, Sonko has spent the last few weeks pursuing Uhuru as the president travels locally and around the globe in an attempt to get his intervention to forestall the corruption investigation against him. Sonko's bizarre pursuit has taken him to Mombasa, Singapore, and New York, where he has been trying to get the President's attention.
State House and state intelligence have learned that Sonko was planning to release videos of private moments he has shared with the President in the past, including explicit private parties and high-profile cocktails with a highly inebriated President Uhuru Kenyatta and some of his closest friends. Sonko reportedly secretly recorded these events and has been playing the videos to a group of friends and journalists while drunk at a private place in Upper Hill area of Nairobi.
Uhuru's handlers based at Statehouse are alarmed at revelations that Sonko could publish videos of Uhuru in compromising situations and are on high alert. The President's P.A. and nephew, Jomo Gecaca, is the only remaining Sonko ally in Uhuru's kitchen cabinet.
The besieged Nairobi Governor went underground after the EACC detectives unearthed a scandal at City Hall in which Sonko reportedly received a Sh20 million kickback from a shell company he incorporated using his own private staff who had won a Sh357 million contract for garbage collection in the city.
