Published on October 1, 2019, a woman's shocking story of forgiveness has emerged from Nyeri County.
Peninah Wangechi was brutally attacked by her husband, Mr. Samuel Ndirangu, on April 9 this year in Karatina, Nyeri County. The attack left her with 17 stab wounds on her back, chest, and face.
Speaking from Karatina Sub County Hospital, Ms. Wangechi revealed that her husband waited until she fell asleep before attacking her. Mr. Ndirangu later presented himself at Karatina Police Station, where he was detained, while Ms. Wangechi was admitted to Karatina Hospital in critical condition.
Five months later, Ms. Wangechi has withdrawn assault charges against her husband, stating that she has forgiven him. In a court hearing, she told Principal Magistrate Alice Mwangi that she had not been coerced and had decided to forgive her husband out of her own free will.
Ms. Wangechi also revealed that she and her husband were still living apart. Principal Magistrate Alice Mwangi granted her request, and Mr. Ndirangu was set free.
