Published on October 1, 2019, a shocking case unfolded in a Nyamira court where a 50-year-old man, Bernard Omayio Kegwaro, confessed to defiling his one-and-half-year-old daughter.
The incident occurred on September 27 at Nyamiacho Village in Bomwagamo, North Mugirango, where Kegwaro was left in charge of the child by her mother, who had gone to pick coffee.
Upon her return, the mother found the toddler crying and the father bathing her, with blood oozing from the child's private parts.
The mother rushed the child to Nyamira Referral Hospital for treatment, where Kegwaro was later arrested and charged with sexually molesting the child and causing physical harm.
During his court appearance before Resident Magistrate Alice Towett, Kegwaro pleaded guilty to all the offences, claiming he never intended to harm the baby and was only exorcising a strange snake he saw around the child.
The court has demanded a pre-sentencing report from the probation office before pronouncing the ultimate verdict.
