On September 30, 2019, the IAAF World Athletics Championships in Qatar, Doha, witnessed a remarkable performance by Beatrice Chepkoech, who secured a gold medal in the women's 3000m steeplechase final.
With a time of 8:57.84, Chepkoech left behind USA's Emma Coburn (9:02.35) and Germany's Gesa Felicitas Krause (9:03.30) to claim the top spot.
Hyvin Kiyeng finished eighth with a time of 9:13.53, while compatriot Celliphine Chepsol dropped out of the race.
Chepkoech's victory was a redemption of sorts, as she had previously missed the water jump in the London World Championships, which had cost her a medal.
However, she bounced back from the disappointment by breaking the world record in Monaco the following year, clocking 8:44.32.
With this win, Chepkoech solidified her position as the world's number one in the steeplechase event.
Before the Doha worlds, Chepkoech had expressed her desire to be in good health and to run as a team to win gold for Kenya. Her prayers were answered, and she delivered on her promise.
