On September 30, 2019, police in Kajiado County arrested three Kenyan men for allegedly engaging in homosexual acts, a crime punishable by up to 14 years in prison.

According to a police report, two of the men had traveled from Mombasa to engage in gay-sex, which is illegal in Kenya.

The men, aged 23 and 24, met on Facebook and agreed to meet for a date in Kajiado. However, they were accompanied by a friend, and after negotiating terms, they engaged in homosexual acts.

When the 24-year-old Kajiado man refused to pay, the two men reported him to the police, leading to the arrest of all three.

Police officers took the men to Kajiado Referral Hospital for a medical examination and will arraign them in court once investigations are completed.

Kenya's penal code states that anyone who has 'carnal knowledge… against the order of nature' can be imprisoned for up to 14 years, and another section recommends a five-year jail sentence for 'indecent practices between males.'
