On 30 September 2019, a woman who was brutally attacked by her husband in Karatina, Nyeri County, withdrew assault charges against him.
Ms. Peninah Wangechi, a mother of three, had been stabbed 17 times on her back, chest, and face during a domestic fight with her then-husband, Samuel Ndirangu, in April 2019.
Despite the severity of the attack, Wangechi had made a remarkable recovery and was discharged from the Karatina Sub-county Hospital.
At the Karatina Law Courts, Wangechi told Principal Magistrate Alice Mwangi that she had forgiven her husband and wanted the case withdrawn. She insisted that she had made the decision out of her own free will and had not been threatened or coerced into doing so.
The couple no longer lives together, and Wangechi's decision to withdraw the case was granted by the magistrate, resulting in Ndirangu's release from custody.
