On September 30, 2019, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) suspended the licenses of nine Saccos in Nairobi for failing to operate the minimum number of required vehicles.

According to transport regulations, public service vehicle (PSV) saccos are required to operate a minimum of 30 vehicles.

NTSA notified the public of the suspension in a statement, citing Section 5(1) of the National Transport and Safety Authority (Operation of PSV) Regulations, 2014, which requires PSV saccos to operate a minimum of 30 serviceable motor vehicles.

The suspended saccos include City Tram, which operates on the Nairobi CBD — Umoja route, Mwamba Sacco, Marvellous Travellers, MNGN Sacco, Fig Komba Sacco, Moonlight Coach company, Mwirona Sacco, Huruma Mini Bus, and Transafaris.

NTSA has advised members of the public not to board vehicles belonging to the listed saccos, and has instructed the Traffic Department to impound any vehicles found operating contrary to the suspension.
