Denis Galava, a seasoned journalist, has made a significant career move, taking on the role of managing editor at Standard Group, a position he assumed on October 1, 2019.
Galava's appointment comes after a stint at Nation, where he was unceremoniously sacked in 2016 for publishing an opinion article that criticized President Uhuru Kenyatta's leadership.
The article, which was published in 2015, sparked controversy, with Galava writing, 'We reject the almost criminal resignation and negligence with which your government has responded to our national crises this past year.'
He further stated, 'With the exception of a few family businesses and tenderpreneurs who raked in billions of shillings – thanks largely to political patronage – everyone is losing money in this country.'
Nation accused Galava of not following procedure, stating that he did not consult before publishing the article, which was a significant departure from established procedure.
Galava's new role at Standard Group marks a significant career milestone, and it will be interesting to see how he navigates the challenges of his new position.
