On 26 September 2019, a horrific incident occurred at Kangemi Estate in Nairobi, where Andrew Mackenzie, a resident, allegedly defiled a 15-year-old girl.
According to the prosecution, Mackenzie left his wife at home and rushed out when he saw the victim heading to an outdoor bathroom. He then stormed into the bathroom while she was taking a bath.
The victim, who was left traumatized, covered her mouth with a towel and issued death threats if anyone found out about the incident.
After the incident, the girl finished her bath and proceeded to school without saying a word to anyone. However, she was unable to bear the trauma and reported the matter to her school secretary.
The school administration took up the matter and informed the victim's mother, who rushed to school. The girl was then taken to a hospital and later to the police station, where she recorded a written statement at Kabete police station.
Andrew Mackenzie denied the defilement charges and was granted a Ksh. 300,000 bond and a surety of the same amount by Senior Principal Magistrate Barbara Ojoo.
The matter will be mentioned on 8 October 2019, with the hearing scheduled for 11 November 2019. If found guilty, Mackenzie could face up to 20 years in prison, as per Section 8(3) of the Sexual Offences Act.
