Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) Leadership Crisis Deepens ¶
As the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) leadership crisis deepens, Secretary General Wilson Sossion has accused Treasurer John Matiang'i of using state machinery to fight him and dismantle the union for their selfish ambitions.
Speaking to Weekly Citizen after being reinstated by the court following a coup orchestrated by Matiang'i two weeks ago, Sossion claimed that the Matiang'i family had ganged up to bundle him out of his position through the backdoor.
He alleged that Matiang'i was using the state machinery provided by his brother, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i, to intimidate teachers and Knut officials at all levels who were against the removal of Sossion from office.
According to Sossion, Matiang'i had promised to appoint him as one of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) commissioners if he succeeded in bundling him out of office.
Teachers from Nyamira county, where Matiang'i hails from, have already termed him as a 'Judas Iscariot' and traitor who was being used by his brother to bring down the giant and umbrella teachers' union for their own selfish ambitions.
They claimed that Matiang'i was using the name of his brother to intimidate teachers and Knut officials at all levels who were against the removal of Sossion from office.
Some national officials told Weekly Citizen that Matiang'i had assured them that with the removal of Sossion from office, TSC would immediately release Sh140 million, which would be shared among those who supported the course.
Interestingly, Matiang'i's campaign at the national office was funded by the government in a bid to bring the union down, a scheme which was hatched by his brother who is now a super minister in the Jubilee government, overshadowing Deputy President William Ruto.
Teachers from Kisii and Nyamira counties have also threatened to form another union if Sossion is bundled out of office, with Sossion as their boss, in a bid to shame those out to frustrate him and the Kenyan teaching fraternity.
