Published on September 30, 2019, a tense situation unfolded in Kilgoris, Narok County, as police arrested over 30 women who had staged demonstrations demanding government intervention in the ongoing fighting between the Siria and Iruasi Ngishu clans.
The women, who are from the Maasai community, had taken to the streets to protest the border clashes in Nkararo that have resulted in the deaths of at least three people in a span of one week.
Police have since detained the women at the Kilgoris Police Station and blocked the Enoosaen–Kilgoris Road, paralyzing transport operations along the busy road.
The protesters are also demanding the transfer of Kilgoris Deputy County Commissioner Mohamed Noor over the failed boundary demarcation.
Speaking to the press, Evelyne Kuso lamented the prolonged fighting and loss of lives, saying, 'We no longer sleep in our homes. People fight day and night. This must end.'
Transmara women leader added, 'We are demanding for peace. We are also Kenyans. We have lost our husbands…where is the government.'
Following last evening's fighting in Oldanyati area that left two people dead and several injured, Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya directed Narok County Commissioner Samuel Kimiti to lead surveyors and government officials to demarcate the contested boundary.
