On September 30, 2019, a somber scene unfolded in Maji Mazuri village, Lugari Sub County, as a resident bid farewell to his beloved hen.
Joseph Omulayi, the hen's owner, was overcome with grief, attributing its sudden death to alleged foul play.
According to Omulayi, the hen was about to lay eggs when it was struck by an unknown assailant, leaving it lifeless on the roost.
Undeterred by the shock and curiosity of his neighbors, Omulayi proceeded to dig a 3-foot grave, wrapped the hen and its eggs in a white cloth, and conducted a burial ceremony, complete with dirges, Bible reading, and prayers.
As Omulayi cemented the grave, he vowed to commemorate the hen's memory with an annual anniversary.
