The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has been running an aggressive campaign to educate Kenyans on the new generation banknotes and remind them of the deadline for exchanging old notes.
As of Monday, the old Sh1,000 notes will cease to be legal tender, and CBK Governor Patrick Njoroge has stated that the deadline will not be extended.
On June 1, 2019, the government ordered the return of old generation Sh1,000 notes, which were set to cease being legal tender on October 1, 2019.
CBK has been actively promoting the new banknotes and warning Kenyans about the dangers of fake money circulating in the market, which has seen many people fall victim due to unfamiliarity with the new notes.
CBK tweeted on Monday, 'This is it! Leo ni leo!' to remind Kenyans of the deadline.
