On Monday, a team of four Senate committee members led by Chairperson Mwangi Githiomi will meet officials from the ministries of Defence, Lands, and the National Lands Commission to gather facts about the standoff between KDF and Isiolo communities.
The committee members, including Njeru Ndwiga, Johnes Mwaruma, and Sylvia Kasanga, accompanied Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo to meet the affected residents in Burat, Ngaremara, and Oldonyiro Wards.
The residents have been issued a 30-day notice to leave the land near the KDF camps, which they allegedly encroached upon without compensation.
Isiolo County Commissioner Joseph Kanyiri said surveyors will identify areas where residents have encroached on military land, and those affected will be asked to remove their property and leave voluntarily before the end of the notice period.
“The notice expires on October 12 this year, and the government wants residents to leave before force is applied and destruction caused,” Kanyiri said.
