On Sunday, 29 September 2019, Kenya wrapped up their fixtures at the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Cup in Japan with a convincing 3-1 (25-15, 26-24, 14-25, 25-21) win over Cameroon in Osaka.
Kenya's captain, Mercy Moim, led the team with 19 points, while Cameroon's Christella Nana topped the scoring chart with 21 points.
The team, coached by Paul Bitok, struggled throughout the tournament, failing to win a set against Serbia, Dominican Republic, Netherlands, and South Korea.
According to Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) president Waithaka Kioni, the team still has a lot to work on to compete at a higher level, and their next focus is to prepare for the Olympic Games qualifiers.
China emerged as the world champion, finishing top of the 12-team tournament with a perfect record. The USA, Russia, Brazil, and South Korea followed in second, third, fourth, and fifth place, respectively.
Malkia Strikers are expected to return home on Tuesday, 1 October 2019.
