Parenting in today's era is a daunting task. Gone are the days when disciplining children was a communal effort, with adults confidently approaching naughty kids and teaching them a lesson. Now, children are raised with enough confidence to cause a coup, and adults are often left wondering how to instill discipline in their young ones.

One such incident that still haunts me is when I intervened in a dispute between a nine-year-old boy and his caregiver. The boy was hitting the lady and yelling insults at her, and I thought I was doing the right thing by intervening. However, things took a turn for the worse when the boy whipped me with a wire in his hand, leaving me feeling like I was in a torture chamber.

That incident made me realize that I had overstepped my boundaries and that it wasn't my battle to fight. The boy's behavior was a reflection of the parenting style of his parents, who had seemingly given up on teaching their child discipline and respect for authority.

As a society, we need to take a step back and re-evaluate our parenting methods. We need to find a balance between being lenient and being firm, and teach our children the value of respect and discipline. If we don't, we risk raising a generation of rowdy children who will hold adults hostage and make our lives miserable.

It's time for us to wake up and take responsibility for our children's behavior. We need to teach them that there are consequences for their actions and that respect is a two-way street. Only then can we hope to raise a generation of children who are respectful, responsible, and well-behaved.
