On September 30, 2019, InterContinental Hotels Group Plc announced a significant expansion in Africa through a Master Development Agreement (MDA) with Aleph Hospitality.

The agreement enables IHG to increase its network in Africa by developing ten franchise hotels across its portfolio of brands in the midscale and upscale segments.

The targeted countries for this expansion include Kenya, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Morocco, Algeria, and Ghana, with the goal of expanding the network of hotels across the Middle East and Africa region by 2025.

Currently, IHG operates 29 hotels, with nine of them located in five countries in Africa, under brands such as Crowne Plaza, voco, Hotel Indigo, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, and Staybridge Suites.

Aleph Hospitality, a Dubai-based company, will manage hotels directly for owners under this agreement.
