McDonald Mariga's Kibra Campaign Marred by Gaffe ¶
McDonald Mariga, the Jubilee Party candidate for the Kibra by-election, made a crucial mistake during his campaign launch on September 29, 2019, failing to introduce himself to the crowd before launching into his campaign promises.
Mariga's campaign was attended by his father, Noah Wanyama, who proudly introduced his son as a young man with a good heart and a strong sense of justice, who would serve the people of Kibra well.
"My son Mariga is not a tribalist, he is a man who serves all people equally. He will be your servant and leader, and he will work to improve the lives of the people of Kibra," Wanyama said.
Mariga's campaign promises included the revival of the NYS program in Kibra, which he said had been neglected since the NYS left the area. He also promised to provide opportunities for young people from Kibra to join the military, police, and prisons.
However, Mariga's failure to introduce himself to the crowd was quickly pointed out by opposition leaders, including Senator Millicent Omanga and MP Nixon Korir, who accused him of being arrogant and out of touch with the people of Kibra.
Mariga was forced to correct his mistake and introduce himself to the crowd, saying "My name is McDonald Mariga, and I am the Jubilee Party candidate for Kibra."
Despite the gaffe, Mariga's campaign was well-received by the crowd, and he remains a strong contender in the upcoming by-election on November 7, 2019.
