Likoni Ferry Accident: Vehicle Plunges into Indian Ocean

On September 29, 2019, a devastating accident occurred at the Likoni ferry in Kenya. A vehicle with four occupants reversed from the ferry and plunged into the Indian Ocean, midstream.

According to the Likoni OCPD, Benjamin Rotich, emergency services were activated immediately. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

The incident occurred while the ferry, MV Harambee, was traveling from the mainland to the island side at around 6pm. The ferry's social media post confirmed the accident, stating that a saloon car had reversed and plunged into the sea.

At the time of filing this report, there was no information available on whether the occupants had been saved. The search and rescue efforts are ongoing.
