On World Pharmacists Day, Homa Bay County officials and health practitioners marched through Homa Bay Town to raise awareness about the dangers of fake pharmacists.

According to Gerald Akeche, the county's health chief officer, the operation aims to eliminate quacks and unregistered pharmacists in the county.

“It requires a concerted effort to ensure pharmacists work with security offers and ensure we weed-out people behind the menace,” Akeche said.

Medical practitioners in the county have linked the rising cases of health complications to the high numbers of fake pharmacists operating in the area.

Speaking during the celebrations, Akeche warned residents to be cautious of quack pharmacists who taint the image of their profession.

He also urged residents to adhere to medical prescriptions and avoid purchasing drugs from counters without seeking a doctor's advice.

Ben Otieno, the Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya's liaison officer in the county, echoed Akeche's sentiments, warning residents against buying drugs from chemists without proper prescription from qualified medical practitioners.

“Let locals seek medical advice from health professionals to avoid taking wrong drugs,” Otieno said.
