On Friday, Kalonzo Musyoka, the leader of Wiper, and Moses Wetang'ula, the leader of Ford-Kenya, joined forces in the Kibra parliamentary seat race, a move that may give ODM's candidate, Imran Okoth, a fresh challenge.
According to Musyoka, who hosted Wetang'ula at the Wiper party offices in Nairobi, his decision to back Ford-Kenya's Khamisi Butichi is a gesture of goodwill for Ford-Kenya's decision not to field a candidate in the Embakasi South by-election this year.
Wetang'ula and Musyoka's alliance signals the deteriorating relations between Raila Odinga and his allies in the 2017 polls.
Julius Mawathe, who won the Wiper party's primaries, will have to give way to Butichi in honor of the handshake between Wetangula and Musyoka.
Butichi will now compete against Jubilee's McDonald Mariga, ODM's Bernard Okoth, and Eliud Owalo of Amani National Congress (ANC) in the Kibra parliamentary seat.
As reported by Uhondo News, Musyoka stated, "Ford-Kenya and its leadership stood by our candidate in the Embakasi by-election, and we cannot take it for granted. My brotherhood with Senator Wetang'ula started in the 1980s when I joined politics."
