On Sunday, a 50-year-old ex-prisoner was arrested in Nyamiacho village, Nyamira County, after allegedly committing a heinous act against his one-and-a-half-year-old daughter.
According to Nyamira North Police boss Timothy Muasya, the suspect had been in hiding since Friday when the alleged incident occurred.
Mr. Muasya explained that the man was arrested after members of Nyumba Kumi noticed him trying to sneak back into his house and alerted the police.
The suspect's 19-year-old wife had previously reported to police officers that she left the child in the company of her father on Friday, only to return and find him washing the toddler's private parts.
She then took her to a nearby hospital, where it was confirmed that the child had been defiled, prompting her to alert the police.
Nyamira County Commissioner Amos Mariba revealed that the suspect was recently released from jail after serving a 15-year sentence.
The suspect is currently being detained at Ekerenyo Police Station pending arraignment on Monday.
