On September 29, 2019, a tragic incident occurred in Lugari, where 74-year-old Ruth Mulongo fell into a borehole at her home and lost her life.

According to Maturu Assistant Chief Festus Mukechi, Mulongo's daughter became worried when her mother took too long to return to the house, prompting her to check on her mother.

When the daughter checked on her mother, she heard Mulongo screaming from inside the well, but unfortunately, it was too late to save her.

Police officers from Matete arrived at the scene and managed to recover the body from the well with the assistance of the villagers.

The body was later transported to Chebaiywa Mortuary in neighbouring Uasin Gishu County for further investigations.

Investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances under which Mulongo fell into the borehole, with some villagers speculating that she may have taken her own life due to protracted land feuds with her sons.

Elsewhere, parents and teachers of Chief Musembi Primary School have urged the police to investigate the disappearance of a KCPE candidate, Christiano Lumasi, who went missing during the August holidays.

The school head teacher, Joseph Aruba, expressed concern that the pupil's disappearance could affect his chances of sitting for the examinations, as per the Kenya National Examination Council laws.
