On September 28, 2019, a lightning strike at Arundo Secondary School in Rongo, Migori County, left six students with minor injuries.

According to Assistant Chief Joseph Nyamanga, the students were in a classroom when the lightning struck, destroying the school's transformer in the process.

The victims, four Form Four students and two from Form Three, were rushed to Rongo sub-county hospital and later discharged after treatment.

Mr. Nyamanga appealed to local leaders to help the school purchase lightning arresters to prevent similar incidents in the future.
