On Saturday, a 74-year-old woman, Ruth Mulongo, tragically fell to her death in a family borehole in Lugari, Kakamega County.
According to family members, Mulongo excused herself to use the borehole but failed to return promptly, prompting her daughter to become worried.
As reported by Maturu Assistant chief Festus Mukechi, the daughter checked on her mother and heard her screaming from inside the well.
Despite the efforts of neighbours and villagers, the rescue attempt was hindered by the lack of equipment to access the deep borehole.
It was later police officers from Matete who managed to retrieve the body after arriving at the scene.
The body was taken to Chebaiywa Mortuary in Uasin Gishu County for post-mortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, with some villagers speculating that the granny might have taken her own life due to family disputes over land ownership.
