Keroche to the Rescue: Saving Gor Mahia from Financial Woes ¶
Reigning champions of the Kenyan Premier League, Gor Mahia, have been facing a major financial crisis after their long-time sponsor, SportPesa, announced its withdrawal of sponsorship from all Kenyan sports teams.
Published on September 29, 2019, at 12:45:17 PM, the news of SportPesa's withdrawal left Gor Mahia in a precarious financial situation, with players reportedly going unpaid for two months.
However, in a timely intervention, Keroche Breweries has come to the rescue of the struggling team, providing a crucial KSh 1 million to help Gor Mahia prepare for their CAF Champions League match against USM Alger.
Of the KSh 1 million, KSh 600,000 will be used to pay the players their outstanding salaries, while the remaining KSh 400,000 will be used for match preparations.
According to Gor Mahia chairman, Ambrose Rachier, the team is still in talks with Keroche Breweries to secure a long-term sponsorship deal.
"We are grateful to Keroche for their timely intervention, but this is just the beginning. We are still in talks with them, and we are hopeful that we will announce a long-term sponsorship deal by the end of this week," Rachier said.
