As the 60-day ultimatum issued by the government for settlers in the Maasai Mau to vacate draws near, Environment Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko has reaffirmed the government's commitment to the directive.

Speaking at the burial of the late Transport Licensing Board Chair Hassan Ole Kamwaro, CS Tobiko emphasized that the ultimatum will not be reviewed, and those still residing within the catchment area are expected to vacate before the end of the deadline.

CS Tobiko and Rift Valley Regional Coordinator George Natembeya urged those still in the Maasai Mau to move out voluntarily before the end of the ultimatum, citing the importance of restoring the forest.

"Nobody will make us stop focusing on what we stated, and those in Mau must come out after those 60 days and nobody will stop them," CS Tobiko said.

CS Tobiko's sentiments were echoed by Narok North MP Moitalel ole Kenta, who lauded the government's efforts to restore the forest.

Security in the area has been enhanced ahead of the second phase of the water towers restoration, which is estimated to affect over 6,000 households.

The Mau is the largest water tower in the country, supporting millions of human life and wildlife in Kenya and neighboring countries.
