Published on September 29, 2019, a fatal stabbing incident occurred at a Baltimore-area shopping center, leaving five people injured and one attacker dead.
The attack took place at the Hunt Valley Mall in Cockeysville, Maryland, approximately 17 miles north of Baltimore. According to authorities, the attacker was a man who was acting aggressively inside a liquor store at the mall.
Officer Jennifer Peach, a spokeswoman for the Baltimore County Police Department, stated that the police were first called about 1:45 p.m. regarding a person threatening others with a boxcutter. However, officials later recovered a hunting-type knife with a three-inch blade that was used in the attack.
The victims were attacked both inside the liquor store and outside a nearby restaurant. An off-duty paramedic who was at the mall helped some of the victims, who were taken to hospitals for treatment.
During the confrontation with the suspect, he was armed with a knife, and officers were forced to discharge their weapons, resulting in a critical injury to the suspect.
The police are working with the Maryland Transit Administration Police to determine if the man was involved in a separate incident on the transit system earlier that day.
