William Kamket Mocks Ruto Over Access to Moi's Kabarak Home

Published on September 29, 2019

William Kamket, a member of parliament from Tiaty, has mocked Deputy President William Ruto for being denied access to the home of former President Daniel Moi in Kabarak.

Kamket, who is a strong critic of Ruto, said he would allow other leaders to visit Moi but would deny Ruto access to the home.

"I have no problem being called a gatekeeper of the Kabarak home, which is blessed. So, if it's my duty to guard the gate, I will allow Uhuru Kenyatta to visit Moi, Raila Odinga to visit Moi, Kalonzo Musyoka to visit Moi, Musalia Mudavadi to visit Moi, David Odhiambo to visit Moi, and even Joho to visit Moi. But I will not allow Ruto to visit Moi," Kamket said.

Kamket's comments come at a time when there is a rift between Ruto and Gideon Moi, the son of former President Moi, over the succession of the presidency in 2022.

While Ruto is seen as a strong contender for the presidency, Gideon Moi has been endorsed by some leaders as a suitable candidate to succeed Uhuru Kenyatta.

The rift between Ruto and Gideon Moi has led to a series of attacks and counter-attacks between the two camps, with some leaders using the two to gain popularity.

Uhuru Kenyatta has been visiting Moi at his home in Kabarak, but Ruto has been denied access to the home.

It is not clear why Ruto has been denied access to the home, but some analysts say it is because Gideon Moi is trying to block Ruto's bid for the presidency.
