Chelsea's young players were finally able to celebrate a home win in the Premier League, thanks to goals from Jorginho and Willian in their 2-0 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday, September 28, 2019.
Chelsea's first home Premier League win of the season was sealed in the second half, with Jorginho scoring a penalty after Brighton defender Adam Webster miscontrolled the ball and brought down Mason Mount.
Willian then fired home a deflected shot in the 76th minute, with goalkeeper Mat Ryan being wrongfooted by a deflection off Dan Burn.
Chelsea had 17 attempts on goal in the first half, but were unable to turn their pressure and high tempo possession into goals.
Frank Lampard, Chelsea's manager, praised the work ethic of Willian and the seasoned players, saying that the youngsters must follow their example.
"The work ethic was great from Willian today," Lampard said. "They set the standards and the youngsters must follow."
Chelsea's win lifted them to sixth in the Premier League, while Brighton are a point off the bottom three in 16th place.
