Published on September 28, 2019, Barcelona's hard-fought 2-0 win over Getafe has moved them to within a point of La Liga leaders Real Madrid, ahead of their highly anticipated derby with Atletico Madrid on Saturday.

Ernesto Valverde's side secured their second victory in a week, temporarily tying them with Atletico and Real Sociedad on 13 points.

The win was made possible by a remarkable counter-attack goal launched by Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and finished off by Luis Suarez, who calmly lobbed the opener over David Soria.

Ter Stegen's impressive display was a welcome respite from his ongoing row with Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer over his lack of opportunities with the Germany team.

Barcelona's first away win since April has breathed new life into their season, which had been marred by questions surrounding Valverde's future.

Meanwhile, Athletic Bilbao suffered their first loss of the season at home to crisis club Valencia, who secured their second win of the season thanks to Denis Cheryshev's 27th minute strike.
