Published on September 28, 2019, Musalia Mudavadi, leader of the Amani National Congress, is in the United States to bolster his bid for the 2022 presidential race.
During a speech in Springfield City, Massachusetts, on Friday, Mudavadi emphasized the importance of rational leadership, stating, “Elections are not about emotions but rationality. We must start putting the right leaders in office. Let’s not pick leaders because they shout the loudest, because they are rabble rousers.”
Mudavadi also took a swipe at ODM leader Raila Odinga over his stance on a constitutional referendum, questioning the motives behind proposed amendments to the constitution. He asked, “Are you amending the constitution to create jobs for some political elite or you are amending the constitution because it is going to serve the interest of the country?”
Furthermore, Mudavadi criticized Deputy President William Ruto over donations to churches, stating that Kenyans should not be blinded by such actions. He said, “We have been judging our leaders by the amount of money they can dish out at church functions yet they do not appear on the official register of KRA as the highest taxpayers. They are donating more than Safaricom does.”
However, Mudavadi praised President Uhuru Kenyatta for directing the stoppage of the Arror dam construction in Elgeyo Marakwet due to allegations of theft of taxpayer’s money.
Mudavadi also acknowledged the critical role Kenyans in the diaspora play in shaping the country’s future through the transfer of knowledge, remittances, and participation in the political process. He emphasized the need for policies that address the needs of the diaspora.
