Former Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe's burial plans have taken a dramatic turn, with the government announcing that he will not be buried at National Heroes Acre in Harare as earlier planned.
Instead, Mugabe will be laid to rest in his hometown of Zvimba, located in the outskirts of the country's capital, according to Zimbabwe's Ministry of Information.
As reported by Al Jazeera, Mugabe's family had expressed discomfort with the initial burial plans, preferring that their patriarch be buried beside his mother and brothers in the village where he grew up.
On September 6th, Mugabe passed away in Singapore, where he had been in the hospital for several months, succumbing to cancer after his chemotherapy treatment was stopped.
According to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Mugabe's doctors had stopped treatment due to his age and the spread of cancer, which was no longer helping.
