On March 3, 2013, a land dispute in Ndathi took a dramatic turn when a man and woman were charged with illegal transfer and acquisition of a privately owned parcel of land.

Simon Karanja and Nancy Muringo denied the three charges of attempting to defraud Anderson Macharia of his parcel of land. The charges included conspiracy to defraud Macharia of his land by forging the title deed in the name of Nancy Muringo, forgery of the land's title deed, and obtaining registration of the land in her name by false pretense.

The two were also accused of forging the title deed in Nancy Muringo's name, with the prosecution stating it would call three witnesses to testify against them.

Nyeri Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo rejected their pleas for lenient bond terms, slapping them with a bond of Sh1 million each. The case will be heard on October 3, 2019.
