On September 28, 2019, the Kikuyu Council of Elders celebrated a significant milestone in their decades-long struggle for a sacred shrine in the Mt Kenya Forest.
David Muthoga, the council's national chairman, expressed gratitude to the government for setting aside the 100-acre land in Narumoru, within the protected Mount Kenya National Park ecosystem.
"We now have a sacred shrine where elders and community high priests can conduct rituals and offer sacrifices to God. We are happy the government has addressed our plea," Muthoga said.
