On September 27, 2019, a Mombasa court heard a case of tax evasion involving three tax agents and two companies.

According to the charges, the tax agents from Ogot & Associates, Wilson Ogot Owera, David Osore Wesonga, and Rolland Anakaya Chiriswa, allegedly aided Gaab Transporters Limited and Samumu Construction Services in reducing their Value Added Tax (VAT) liability.

The court heard that the companies made incorrect statements to the Commissioner for Domestic Taxes in their VAT returns for the months of March, April, May, and June 2016, thereby reducing their VAT liability by Sh1,593,908 and Sh552,672 respectively.

The total amount of tax evaded by both companies amounts to Sh2,146,580.

Appearing before Mombasa Senior Resident Magistrate Christine Ogweno, the suspects denied several counts and were ordered to deposit cash bail of Sh100,000 each.

The two cases will be mentioned on October 17, and the court summoned additional directors to appear in court on the mention date.
