On September 27, 2019, Magistrate Joyce Gandani ordered the detention of Precious Talents Academy owner Moses Wainaina for 15 more days to allow police to complete their investigation into the collapse of the school building.

The court's decision came after the investigating officer opposed the school owner's release, citing concerns that he could tamper with evidence.

Magistrate Gandani emphasized the need for thorough investigations, stating, "Death of a single pupil is catastrophic. Thorough investigations need to be conducted."

Eight pupils lost their lives in the tragic incident, while 64 others were injured.

As part of the investigation, the police have been ordered to obtain reports from the Ministry of Education and Urban Planning.

Mr. Wainaina was arrested on Thursday evening and detained at Kabete Police Station.

The government has also shut down the school and directed that the 207 remaining pupils be transferred to Ngong Forest Primary School, Jamhuri Primary School, and Riruta Satellite Primary School.
