Man Accused of Killing Wife with Hammer Detained for 14 Days

On September 27, 2019, a Kiambu Law Court granted police a 14-day detention order for a man accused of murdering his wife with a hammer.

Michael Mburu Mwaura, the accused, claimed the killing was accidental and that he had not premeditated the murder.

According to the police, the incident occurred at the couple's home in Darasha area, Juja Sub County, Kiambu County.

Police Constable Cornelius Aruasa, who applied for the detention order, stated that the accused was a flight risk and could interfere with the investigation if released.

Chief Magistrate Patricia Gichohi directed that the accused be detained and undergo a mental assessment prior to plea taking, with the case set to be mentioned on October 4, 2019.
