Published on September 27, 2019, six people were arrested in Machakos County after resisting orders to vacate land belonging to the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation.

The land in question is located along Kangundo road in Machakos County and is claimed by the Komarock Housing Society to be owned by them.

According to reports, the society claims to have acquired the land in 1981 and had subsequently sub-divided it and sold it to its members.

However, government spokesman Cyrus Oguna has warned Kenyans against purchasing the land, stating that the property belongs to the State and was acquired fraudulently by the Komarock Housing Society.

Police had to lob teargas at the protesters to disperse them from the land, resulting in the arrest of six members of the Komarock Housing Society.

Meanwhile, in a related development, the Principal Administrative Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, Eric Kiraithe, has ordered encroachers on another piece of land belonging to KBC in Mombasa to immediately vacate.

The 23-acre piece of land known as VoK has seen a protracted struggle between the corporation and land grabbers over the years.
