On September 27, 2019, a somber mood gripped Posta Grounds in Nairobi as leaders and mourners gathered for a memorial service for eight pupils who lost their lives in a tragic accident at Precious Talents Primary School.

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Jubilee Party's candidate in the Kibra by-election, McDonald Mariga, were among the leaders who attended the service.

The mass was characterized by sorrow, grief, and shock as families of the deceased and mourners formed long queues to bid their loved ones farewell.

Some pupils broke down as the reality of never seeing their friends again started to sink in. Officials from the Kenya Red Cross and Sonko Rescue team were on hand to assist the bereaved.

Among the leaders present were area Member of Parliament John Kiarie, Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris, and nominated senator Millicent Omanga.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Odinga announced that the government would construct a school in Lenana to replace the one that was destroyed.

Meanwhile, Moses Ndirangu, the owner of the school, was detained for 15 days after being accused of giving misleading information while seeking a school registration certificate from the Ministry of Education.
