On September 27, 2019, Education CS George Magoha ordered the closure of Greenfield School in Changamwe, Mombasa County, following a discovery of substandard structures.

The school, which has 445 pupils, was found to have structures that posed a danger to students.

Magoha reiterated his directive that all learning institutions posing a danger to students be shut down, citing the recent collapse of classrooms at Precious Talents School in Nairobi.

On Monday, eight pupils died and over 50 were rushed to hospital with serious injuries after their classrooms collapsed.

Magoha had earlier ordered an audit and immediate closure of schools with substandard infrastructure countrywide.

The owner of Precious Talents, Moses Wainaina, has been arrested, but blames the Nairobi County Government for the collapse of the school building, citing a sewer line constructed underneath the building as the cause.
