On September 27, 2019, a somber mood turned into a protest at the Ngong Racecourse in Dagoretti, Nairobi, as parents of Precious Talent School students held a memorial service for the victims of the school's tragic collapse.
Former Premier Raila Odinga was present at the event, and the parents showed their solidarity by holding placards demanding the school's reopening and the release of its owner, Moses Wainaina, who was arrested on September 26, 2019, at Kabete Police Station.
According to Dagoretti South MP John Kiarie, the parents want the school reconstructed and its teacher released. He also condoled with the affected families, stating, 'We came here to mourn and give our condolences to the parents who lost their children. I would like to inform the students that we shall rebuild your school and ensure you continue with your studies.'
Investigations into the tragedy revealed disturbing details about the structural integrity of the building, including the use of chicken wire to reinforce the suspended floor that collapsed, resulting in the deaths of eight students and injuring over 64 others.
