On September 27, 2019, a court ruling on whether the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) should be barred from re-arresting former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa over Matungu killings was halted.
The trial judge, Jesse Njagi, cited pressure of work and rescheduled the ruling for October 17.
Echesa was arrested on May 17 after heeding a call from the County Police Commander to record a statement regarding the killings.
He claims his previous arrest was an abuse of the criminal justice system and an infringement of his rights.
Echesa maintains he is unfairly targeted and that the agencies involved in the investigations are being used by his political enemies.
He seeks a declaration that his previous arrest was unlawful and to be shielded from further arrest and prosecution.
